Empretec - Inspiring entrepreneurship across the world
Empretec is a capacity-building programme of the United Nations Conference on Trade and
Development (UNCTAD), coordinated from Geneva, Switzerland, by the Enterprise
Development Branch of the Division on Investment and Enterprise. It was launched in 1988
in Argentina and since then has expanded to 32 countries across the developing world with
additional requests from 27 countries pending availability of financial resources. In
cooperation with local counterparts the programme has assisted more than 240,000
entrepreneurs through local market-driven Empretec centres. The main beneficiaries are
aspiring entrepreneurs, women entrepreneurs, small and micro businesses, young people and
employees of large public and private companies, as well local small suppliers. |

Four main products of Empretec
The programme has four main products: Empretec Entrpepreneurship Training Workshops (ETW), Business
Development Services (BDS) component, Empretec networks, and an institutional facility (i.e. the Empretec programme/centre). |

The Empretec India Entrepreneurship Training Workshops (ETWs)
The ETW is a central product of Empretec. It aims at coaching entrepreneurial behaviours and
attitudes by focusing at 10 key competencies of a successful entrepreneur. It fosters
motivation and self-confidence of participants; and builds trust that facilitates
partnerships. It is supplemented by training-of-trainers workshops to develop local
trainers. |

Salient features of the Empretec India Entrepreneurship
Training Workshop
- Entrepreneur selection: Entrepreneurs and key functionaries of organizations pre-selected by Empretec India will be further interviewed for final selection for the Empretec India workshops, in keeping with UNCTAD’s eligibility principles.
- Duration of each workshop: 6 days
- Number of entrepreneurs per batch: 30
- Fees: A fee will be charged from participants. The fee will go towards the expenses of the UNCTAD Missions, training, certification, venue and refreshments at the venue during the workshop. This does not include cost of travel to the venue or stay. Taxes, if any, will be extra.
- Certificates: UNCTAD will issue certificates of participation after you complete the workshop.
- Coaching and UNCTAD participation: 2 UNCTAD-certified International Master Trainers, along with two senior functionaries from UNCTAD, Geneva
- Post-workshop services: Entrepreneurs can participate in the UNCTAD Business Linkages Programme
- Selection of participants to be trained as trainers: Exceptionally suited and interested participating entrepreneurs – after meeting prescribed criteria – will be offered training by UNCTAD to become UNCTAD-certified Empretec trainers
